The development of Goat Farming Village Nganggring in Sleman, DIY, is being supported by Bank Indonesia (BI) in order to boost tourism. One of the initiatives taken by BI is the organization of the Kaligesing ‘Piala Raja 2018′ Goat Contest, which attracted more than 1,000 participants and visitors from all over Yogyakarta and national areas.

Bank Indonesia is committed to promoting the success of the Nganggring Goat Farming Village as a model for end-to-end goat farming processes that produce high-quality livestock. Additionally, the village offers alternative educational tourism opportunities in the fields of livestock farming, agriculture, and product diversification.

Budi Hanoto, Head of Bank Indonesia DIY, believes that the Nganggring Goat Farming Village, which consists of Peranakan Etawa (PE) goat farming, home industries for processing PE goat milk, and salak plantations, has the potential to become a new tourist attraction in Padukuhan Nganggring.

The formation of the Nganggring Goat Farming Village began with the development of the Nganggring Independent Livestock Farmers Group, which has been a beneficiary of Bank Indonesia’s Local Economic Development (LED) program since 2016. Bank Indonesia’s involvement in the promotion of the livestock and tourism sectors in Sleman aims to empower the community and enhance their well-being.

Bank Indonesia DIY has implemented the LED program through a cluster approach, covering the entire value chain and starting with a needs assessment of the farmers’ group. This ensures that the mentoring provided is tailored to the specific requirements of the Nganggring Independent Livestock Farmers Group.

Since 2016, several programs have been implemented as part of this initiative. These include improving the competencies of farmers through the establishment of Livestock Schools to enhance production quality and providing institutional support.

Efforts have also been made to enhance the self-reliance of farmers in the production of livestock feed and the proper treatment of waste. In terms of infrastructure development, Bank Indonesia implemented the Social Program of Bank Indonesia (PSBI), which included the construction of culinary houses, feed houses, fertilizer houses, MA 11 starter laboratories, goat milk processing facilities, outbound equipment, and buildings for the independent farming cooperative.

Bank Indonesia has also provided mentoring in the diversification of goat milk products and outbound business management to extend the length of tourists’ stays. It has also facilitated exhibitions and various events to boost marketing efforts.

The Nganggring Independent Livestock Farmers Group has made significant progress in their business activities. They have implemented an integrated farming system that combines goat farming with salak plantations, allowing them to engage in more than just communal goat farming.

The success of Bank Indonesia DIY in mentoring the Nganggring Independent Livestock Farmers Group can be attributed to the strong synergy and coordination with the Sleman District Government. It is hoped that the continued cooperation between the Sleman District Government, Bank Indonesia, and other stakeholders will further develop Padukuhan Nganggring into a popular tourist destination.
